"Bolivianas": TerraProject de Pietro Paolini

In December 2005 Juan Evo Morales Ayma won the Bolivian presidential election. For the first time in the history of the Americas an indigenous person became the president of the republic, and for the first time in Bolivia a president was elected with more than 50% of votes. Morales grew up as a politician, becoming the leader of the "cocalero" movement, fighting for the rights of the Bolivian coca growers. After establishing the MAS party - Movement for Socialism - he was involved with the Bolivian social movement in all the popular revolts of the country. The main goal of the MAS is to give power and integration to the native communities of the country and absolute majority to the population and marginals in all areas of political life: access to education, free health care, support to cooperatives, a return to state management of resources, recognition of indigenous authorities; those are just some of the politics promoted by the government. After the referendum that ratified the new constitution in december 2009, Morales was re-elected for the second time with 64% of votes. Bolivia is in the heart of South America, chaotic geography made up of unending plateaus, salt deserts, rain forests, steppes and gentle hills; 36 indigenous ethnic groups are mixed with the population of this country that is rich in ancestral traditions and contemporary stimuli. These images represent a trip through the country, at a time of change in the popular conscience, without knowing what the future holds, but with the firm belief that there will be no turning back.
